Abstract
Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging infectious disease caused by a new member of the Phlebovirus species in the family Bunyaviridae. The signs and symptoms of SFTS include high fever, gastrointestinal symptoms, thrombocytopenia, leukocytopenia, and multi-organ dysfunction with an average case-fatality rate of 10?16%. Neural symptoms, hemorrhages, disseminated intravascular coagulation, or multi-organ failures occur in severe SFTS cases. Since the first reported case of SFTS in South Korea in 2013, we established molecular diagnostic methods to detect SFTSV. To date, the specificity and sensitivity of the various test methods have not been reported. Research is needed on the sampling time for the virus detection and antibody detection.
